Lettering TITT has been awesome as ERIC WEATHERS does hand done sound FX and some other special lettering to make the story hit harder. Hope to go to print soon!
Dan Lawlis PRINT announced as 80K stretch goal!
YUP! We BROKE 76K and announced our next stretch - a DAN LAWLIS print for the ages! Thank you Dan! What an TERROR!
A creator came to me recently saying they needed advice. They love to draw but these days when put pencil to page they freeze up. An overwhelming anxiety overtakes them. After some discussion he revealed that the pressure to achieve ultimate success was the problem. Never weigh yourself down with expectations like that. Success is a many stepped ladder. He also revealed that success was seen as a vague and unobtainable thing to him. So essentially he was placing a very heavy faceless ghost on his back. I wouldn’t be able to draw either! Define what success is for yourself and chart your steps for getting there daily.
However, you can’t just dream and ponder, you have to do. That’s why it’s good to remember there’s power and freedom in the hand that moves the pencil across the page. You aren’t helpless, you’re carving out your own path now. That’s pressuring for some, but can be empowering for others. That’s why I’m making my own comic and not giving a fuck about perfection. It’s the doing not the dreaming that will get you there. Don’t scare yourself into not doing with pressure and being in your head. Easier said than done when dreaming is what makes us want to create in the first place, but that’s the discipline I believe divides the successful from the dreamers. Go easy on yourselves and give yourself permission to achieve at your own pace. If you get only only one design done that day - so what? That’s another design on the pile to help you move forward.
No two stories are the same so also never compare yourself to others. It’s self wounding. You can set goals for yourself that others have achieved and try for them but don’t think your road will ever play out the way someone else’s does. You must carve out your own path. Enjoy it, that’s living and creating and working towards something greater. It’s a fight with both the world and yourself. Don’t worry, take a breath and move that pencil. You’re going to win at your pace.
Ever just jam out something quick and raw and not give a damn about perfection just to see what the end result is? I’m doing that by drawing my own comic called RERUNMAN.
The whole scenario was scary to be honest:
I’m no comic pro.
I haven’t drawn a comic in many years, just inked a few.
I haven’t drawn a comic digitally or used ClipStudio before.
Yet, it’s the most fun I’ve had making comics in a while! Taking RISKS and putting yourself in uncomfortable challenge scenarios can lead to cool things and growth as an artist. Even if Rerunman isn’t perfect, the experience of doing this for the love of story and comics is well worth it. Here are some WIP colors.
