Greetings Knights of Von Kingdom!
I have such sights to show you! Firstly the final color pages of Terror in the Trenches came in. DO NOT MISS THIS BOOK GUYS! It’s unlike anything on the shelves and brings back Black Terror badder than ever! I’m very proud of our colorist, Tiago Barsa. Look at how he uses lighting to convey mood and character. Just astounding!
That’s part of what’s so appealing when it comes to making comics - the entire affair is like directing. You’re designing everything from the ground up right down to lighting and FX. It’s the ultimate in storytelling experience. It’s also exhausting making all these decisions but well worth it when a book finally comes out the way I want for once.
We’ve sold 52/100 so far! DO NOT MISS these TERROR GAS VIAL REPLICAS! Handpainted. Stunning. Not brave. Cause it’s terror gas.
More art has come in for my story in TYGER BLUE 2: UNSUNG! Still a WIP but almost done! Jose Garcia is killing it. He will be adding highlight renderings soon. Book is available here.
In other news my ONE SHOT I wrote for the amazing artist NARWHAL called CAVE SLAVE is getting the book treatment soon! Here are some pages of this amazing action caveman era tale! Sign up for this book here!
NEAR DARK (1987)
Masterful storytelling incredible aesthetics and a vampire story in which no one ever says the word ‘vampire’. I present you with Kathryn Bigelow’s NEAR DARK. With Eric Red helping on the screenplay. You might know him from a little movie called THE HITCHER
Oklahoma Farm boy Caleb crosses into the dark dusty highways of Texas looking for fun only to be bit by Mae, a vampire who’s part of a gang of roving blood suckers. These badasses live in a blacked out RV and hunt along a gothic industrial country landscape. They take down truckers and drifters in highway bars and move on. Every character is realized and layered and the movie answers interesting questions about vampires, such as what its like to be a vampire kid losing their mind because they can never grow up. It’s not surprising Near Dark is referred to by many as a vampire western. The movie has shoot outs with cops and some amazing heroic cowboy imagery. It’s title all makes sense by the movie’s end in a beautiful way.
The cast alone - I mean you’re welcome James Cameron. Sheesh - recognize these badasses from ALIENS anyone?
It’s a cult film and a great film whether you’re into horror or not. Great storytelling and beautiful directing and the perfect cast come together well to make a movie I believe many audiences weren’t ready for. It’s a very dark movie that is actually very uplifting by the end. It broke so many rules to give us something new and that’s why it’s great and on the top of many horror aficionados lists.
